Contagious health behaviours?

It’s only natural to compare yourself to your closest friends. Numerous times I have assessed Jane’s* outfit, noted how slim her legs are looking or whether her holiday has done her tan justice. However, I have never believed that Jane’s recently toned body would compel me to attach myself to a treadmill until I achieved the same. That was until I found a recent survey by Arizona State University's School of Human Evolution and Social Change that reveals the huge effect that friendships have on health behaviours. Through 101 case studies there is a heavy correlation between a women’s BMI and that of her friends. If your circle of friends are obese then it is highly likely that you will also have a higher BMI than if your nearest and dearest led healthy lives. With my impending holiday, I am now going to put this to the test and surround myself with gym addicts in the hope I will turn into the same!
